I own a car and of course you need insurance to drive in China. However unlike back home in the U.K. which requires the person to have insurance, in China it’s the car that is insured. This is car insurance done right in China.
That’s right THE CAR is insured, so anyone can drive your car if they hold a license. Just one annual payment and Aviva and I and anyone we want to can drive our car. How awesome is that?
How much does it cost to insure a car in China?
I drive a mid size S.U.V. and it costs me about 2,000 yuan (about 230 pounds) for fully comprehensive insurance. I have had some bumps and scraps in the past and I have had absolutely no problems sorting out repairs under the cover I had.

Why do I drive a WEY?
The company that makes my car is the Great Wall Motor Company Limited and is a Chinese automobile-manufacturer headquartered in Baoding, Hebei, my home in China, so it made sense for me to buy a locally produced car so I could get access to resources if needed quicker. Plus it’s a pretty cool car for the money.
Great Wall Motors is MASSIVE!
The factory and their surrounding facilities make up most of the southern part of the city.
Formed in 1984 and named after the Great Wall of China, the company is China’s largest producer of sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) and pick-up trucks. It sells passenger cars and trucks under the “Great Wall” brand, and SUVs under the “Haval” and “WEY” brands.
